I enjoy some older technology. Not that I’m an expert or even more than a dilettante when it comes to most of it. I love mechanical pocket watches and own quite a few, most of which no longer work. I suspect they all need a good cleaning. It’s beyond my skill and visual acuity to fix them though. My wife got me a really nice one a while back, and it runs like a champ.
Poor Editing Is Dumbing Down America
One of the things that I believe is responsible for much evil in society today is poor grammar. Yesterday I remarked that Jill Biden did not compare Latinos to tacos, yet many Hispanics, many conservative pundits, and some politicians still are offended, as if she actually did. I firmly believe that this is due to a failure of our education system. In the case of Jill Biden’s remarks, it’s the failure of many to even parse a sentence.

Sure, she did say that the Latino community was unique, like breakfast tacos are unique, but that’s not really the same thing. Here are her actual words.
“[W]ith the understanding that the diversity of this community, as distinct as the bodegas of the Bronx, as beautiful as the blossoms of Miami, and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio, is your strength.”
For decades, the left has used the court system to make law that they could not make through the political process. Now that a few major cases haven’t gone their way, they question the legitimacy of the courts, with some even calling for the dissolution of the Supreme Court of the United States. So demanding that the head of state of a foreign power stand trial for war crimes at the ICC is just a little hypocritical isn’t it? Do we really want to open that can of worms? Read more
