Well. Obviously the convention is over. I had a good time – but I refrained from using my camera for the most part. There were a lot of interesting workshops – particularly on medieval arms and armor. I attended all of those that I could as well as a few writers workshops.
The convention set an attendance record this year – but overall, I think the fen were somewhat subdued compared to previous years. The costumes were tamer, the parties were quieter (until Saturday night) and the discussions were quieter. On Thursday night I went to see Ladyhawke and for the first 15 minutes or so of the film it was somewhat like Mystery Science Theater 3000, but that didn’t last as the louder more obnoxious fans decided to go elsewhere.
The hotel on the other hand… what can I say about them that won’t…
Well, they did a better job than last year – although I still was unimpressed with the staff and their ability to handle things. I couldn’t check into my room for over 45 minutes after I got there… but there was parking on the lot… The valet told me I didn’t have to worry about it since I was a guest of the hotel… then they charged me $20 per day to park… The restaurant service was better than last year – but the food was still marginal.
My wife will go with me to the convention again next year. But she’s made it clear that she won’t be staying at the hotel again.
Now… after work… I have to go to the fabric store. We need to find patterns and fabric – who knows – maybe we’ll be eligible for the Masquerade next year?
