Antelope Island

While Betty is here with me in Utah I’m having fun hanging out with her. Today we went to Antelope Island. The island is named after one of these…

This was my second trip to Antelope Island, but the first time I actually saw any antelope. Usually all you see are these…

… and you know it’s not called “Buffalo Island.”
There’s also a ranch on the south end of the island. Last time I was here I didn’t get to see it. This time I did.

On the way back from the ranch we ran across a herd of buffalo crossing the road…

A bit later we ran across the herd of antelope…

Of course it wasn’t just the animals we went to see either… The Lord built a lot of nice scenery out here.

For a day that started out with digging my car out from under the snow it turned out quite nice. Like I said, it’s been fun having my wife around with me. So many things to see and do… I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

 | I just love this kind of stuff. The last time we took the kids out to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge (in the Wichita "mountains"--so-called) for a picnic, we ended up sharing our picnic area with a rather large bison that wandered in while we were chowing down. Since he (yes, rather obviously) was between us and our car, we just enjoyed his company until he wandered off again.
No antelope there, but in our several visits we did see more bison, elk and other assorted Southwest wildlife. Always good to enjoy such things, eh? |

 | Yes, the trip was more than worth it for the opportunity to see these animals, as well as beautiful scenery, and a slice of history. Betty and I really enjoyed it, and it helps to restore perspective. A good daylight cross country flight can do the same, although it would require you to look out your window. So many people are taken in by the density of human population along our roadways that they've become convinced there are no open spaces left. I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't a part of the eco-alarmist religion. Getting away from civilization isn't easy, and civilization seems so anti-nature. Personally, I find the crowds dehumanizing. Getting away from them even for a few hours restores the soul. And wow. Bison are HUGE. |

 | See any "beefalo" Half Buffalo half Beef? They were all the rage for a while, sounds too weird for me.
Lovely pictures. Looks like a great place to live or visit. |
