For those we lost, We will not forget 09/11/2001 “Our God given unalienable rights are given to us all as individuals. They tell us what we may do for ourselves, and they are the embodiment of liberty. The so-called rights that government gives to some of us are parcelled out to select groups as classes. They tell us what one class of people may require another to do for them, and they are the very essence of slavery.”

The yoke’s on me

Well, it was earlier tonight anyway. I’ll see if I can get someone to take a picture of me wearing it during the day.

That’s right, I completed the yoke portion of my first haubergeon tonight. I put a couple of weeks into it, time during which I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to fit the thing over my somewhat larger than normal head. I’m pleased to say it went over my head, even with all the hair without a problem. I have maybe 1,000 or so stainless rings left, so I’m going to order another 5,000 before the week is out. I just may finish this piece before April.

YOKE

My coffee table isn’t quite large enough to show you how the piece looks “fully open.” Oh well, that’s how it goes. Anyway, the front is to the right. Now that that piece is done, I will finish up the front and work on the sleeves next. Then I’ll put the back together and finish “stitching” it together. My best guess so far is that there will be about 15,000 hand closed links to the whole piece and that it will weigh about 16½  pounds.

If I get a decent shot of me wearing the yoke tomorrow, I’ll update this post with it.

Well… I don’t know about “good”, but here are two photos Shiwani at work took of me in it this afternoon at the office.

The yoke's on me

The yoke's on me (still)

Now, It’s time to get back to bending wire. Type at you later!

No. About a year and a half ago I went to a new Rennaisance and Fantasy faire in Enumclaw and picked up a small kit. I decided then that I'd someday try my hand at some more serious projects. This fall I decided to get started, since there's little else to do 850 miles from home.
