Dishonesty and sensationalist propaganda

Sometimes, I think that people are just plain dumb – either that or they think everyone else is. Take, for example this, reported by The Salt Lake Tribune.
As a result of a man dying overnight at Salt Lake City’s Pioneer Park, Police Chief Chris Burbank on Friday ordered Occupy Salt Lake protesters to vacate their camps at both the west-side park and downtown’s Gallivan Center.
…
"We understand the city’s concern about the situation but let’s be clear. We have been providing food, shelter and health care," Fruhwirth said of the makeshift community born out of the Occupy movement at Pioneer Park. "To react by shutting this down will lead to more people dying alone, cold, hungry and without shelter."
That’s an odd claim to make, don’t you think? We know that one man has died while the city allowed this makeshift community to continue. The city actually shut things down to prevent more deaths. With facts like that before us how can they make such a claim? Especially considering that if it weren’t for them in the first place this man might not have died. How is it that one of their own died with all that food, shelter, and health care?
They can only make this claim tangentially – by citing the numbers of the homeless that already die alone, cold, hungry and without shelter – and saying that if they’re successful they can end all that. If this man was homeless wouldn’t he have been better served in a homeless shelter than waiting for the occupiers’ revolution to save him in a tent in sub-freezing weather? I know that such shelters are already available in the Salt Lake area. And they weren’t established by the “occupiers” either.
The mayor later issued a news release saying that the city was rescinding Occupy’s camping permit and would no longer be issuing such free-speech camping permits anywhere within city limits. He said the city will continue to work with protestors to ensure the protesters’ rights are protected.
What’s the response to the shut down? A shut down that was announced well in advance (Friday night) and didn’t take place until Sunday morning? How about this from Wonkette?
Cops Attack #Occupy Camps In Oakland, Portland, Salt Lake City & Denver
It was another Sunday night/early Monday of nationwide riot-cop raids against the #Occupy Wall Street protests, this time in Oakland, Portland, Salt Lake City and Denver. It’s almost like this is coordinated!
Really? Riot-cop raids? A coordinated nationwide attack on the “dissidents”? Was this really a bunch of jack-booted thugs attacking peaceful protesters? What a load of bullshit.
I drove past the old “occupier” camp at Pioneer Park on my way home tonight. There’s still at least one tent up and a lot of dead grass where the other tents used to be. None of them appear to have actually moved out of Gallivan Plaza just across the street from where I work though. No sign of violence, just more defiance of the law. Man that must have been some crack-down.
As I was returning to work from lunch today one of them asked me if I’d seen the American Dream. He wanted to point me to their protest area. I simply replied that “I’m living it.”
And I am. Which is more than I can say for those deadbeats. Morons all of them and their supporters – willing to distort the truth for a cause.

 | But, Perri, the "Occupiers'" narrative just fits the Mass MEdia Podpeople Hivemind's narrative so well that "Dishonesty and sensationalist propaganda" is nothing more or less than a simple, honest translation of the word "news" nowadays. |
Perri Nelson responded with:
 | It turns out that the man who died on Friday died of carbon monoxide poisoning and a drug overdose. A tragedy to be sure, but yet another reason to close the camp. The drug overdose implies the use of illegal drugs in the camp - not exactly something that improves the occupiers credibility in my eyes. The carbon monoxide poisoning supports my argument about the homless sleeping in tents in sub-freezing weather. Tents and space heaters just don't mix well. |
David responded with:
 | IOW, he died of excessive stupidity. Someone phone the Darwin Awards committee... |
Stanford Matthews responded with:
 | Some have drawn a comparison between the sixties' protests or 'movements' and OWS. Like much of our country's history of public unrest or civil disobedience this OWS thing seems to be another case of special interests masking their various agendas through the hype about a few whackjobs thinking they are revolutionaries.
I love this:
'As I was returning to work from lunch today one of them asked me if I’d seen the American Dream. He wanted to point me to their protest area. I simply replied that “I’m living it.” '
Children of the sixties and some since the 'greatest generation' get it. The youthful ignorance of the current batch of revolutionaries and their handlers continue to be less than inspirational |
