For those we lost, We will not forget 09/11/2001 “Our God given unalienable rights are given to us all as individuals. They tell us what we may do for ourselves, and they are the embodiment of liberty. The so-called rights that government gives to some of us are parcelled out to select groups as classes. They tell us what one class of people may require another to do for them, and they are the very essence of slavery.”

Back on the grid

Yes, I’ve been gone a while. At first it was because things were getting really busy. Then it was because of problems with my computer. After a couple of weeks, I simply got out of the habit, and into other habits. I think I’ll spare myself and you the details, except to say that the computer isn’t quite 100% just yet.

I also haven’t done too much reading online, or paid too much attention to the news. Things still look pretty much the same as they did a month ago – only the details have changed. The general public is still pretty much as clueless as always. Politics is pretty much as messed up as always too. According to yesterday’s poll results from one of the survey sites I occassionally participate on…

Percentage who think it is right for countries to ban individuals for views they hold 44%
Percentage who say empathy should be a key factor in nominating a Supreme Court Justice 54%

More than half of the respondents think that empathy is an important consideration and qualification for Supreme Court Justices? And nearly half think it’s OK to ban people from a country for their ideology? In a country where the freedom of speech is held to be sacred? – Oh, that’s right. I forgot about the “fairness” doctrine and the notion that conservatives are somehow a threat to national security.

The more I look at these things, the more I think that the samples are heavily weighted toward the left. I’ve always believed that respect for the law and the Constitution should be a key factor in nominating a Supreme Court Justice. Empathy is what got us to the point where the Constitution is little more than a piece of paper with archaic language written on it.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. I can be gone for almost a month and it looks like the country didn’t go to Hell in a hand basket, but at the same time, it looks like little has improved either. Well, my 0.000000083% influence (based on my average daily readership vs. the U.S. population) wasn’t likely to change much anyway.

I think I’ll go read the news.
