I am a Marxist
Published Thu, Mar 5 2009 12:47 PM
O.K. I admit it. I’ve long been a fan of Marx. I know that he’s a relic of a bygone era, but he had talent and ability that I wish I had when I’m trying to articulate my thoughts.
Oh, I’m certainly not talking about the Marx that appears to inspire so much of the recent economic activity that our government is engaging in. After all, as far as I’m concerned, Karl Marx has been discredited for a long time — since even before he was born. No, I’m talking about Groucho!
And thanks to Angel for reminding me to laugh.

 | *heh* Now, I wish I could recall where I filed away the "Hail, Hail Freedonia" scene from Duck Soup... |
Perri Nelson responded with: Duck Soup
Angel responded with:
 | lol..love the post title..ya got me! :) |
Marshall Art responded with:
 | It's funny. When Bush was in office, Groucho's "I'm Against It" described their obstruction to a T. But with every utterance of Barry Obama, the song fits better for us. Whatever Barry's for, I'm against it. |
Marshall Art responded with:
 | Darn. I meant to say that "I'm Against It" fit DEM obstruction to a T. |
T F Stern responded with:
 | I'd give you my two cents worth but that would only leave me a nickle... |
David responded with: I'll have a bowl, please
 | "These Are the Laws of My Administration"

 | *sigh* Apparently you'll have to go here and then watch them at YouTube, cos embedding's been disabled:

Looks like it's from the re-release of the unretouched, unedited DVD from a few years ago. |
Marshall Art responded with:
 | I recently turned on my thirteen year old daughter to a few Marx Bros. movies. We looked at about five of them or so. She was screamin'! I can't tell you how gratifying it was to see her get it. I mean she was even getting most of the Groucho and Chico references, with the exception of those related to the times in which the films were made. Later, I showed her a few Monty Python sketches on YouTube. Same reaction. Her friends dont' get it. It was a beautiful bonding moment. |
Stanford Matthews responded with:
 | You got me too. The vid was not in view when I started reading. Good one.
I thought you were taking the angle that just because you disagree with someone's viewpoint does not necessarily mean they are not intelligent, etc. |
