For those we lost, We will not forget 09/11/2001 “Our God given unalienable rights are given to us all as individuals. They tell us what we may do for ourselves, and they are the embodiment of liberty. The so-called rights that government gives to some of us are parcelled out to select groups as classes. They tell us what one class of people may require another to do for them, and they are the very essence of slavery.”

Oh if only that were still so

This morning’s Founder’s Quote Daily from the Patriot Post gives one of the best possible explanations for the existence of the second amendment to our Constitution.

“Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom of Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretence, raised in the United States.”
— Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, 1787

If only it were still so. Then as I have been recently been reminded by Glenn Cassel, the 1918 SMLE and the Shilo Sharps Number One would truly be at our service in the restoration of our liberties from an increasingly overbearing and tyrannical federal government. Alas, for decades the second amendment has been gutted and our right to keep and bear arms infringed both in spirit and reality.

Thankfully there are still non-violent means we can use to take back our government from the seemingly “permanent” political class. We simply need to recognize them and learn to use them effectively – provided that we have the will to do it. I’m continually hearing it said that we may need someday soon to take our government back by force. I still don’t think it has to come to that – or that the American people are ready for such drastic measures. If the last several quadrennial polls are any indication we’ve got a long way to go before they are.

Until that time remember… the supreme Law of the Land says this.

Amendment II

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
