Football and Olympia

Yesterday was not a great day for football as far as I was concerned. I watched the first half of the AFC Championship game, and the last quarter of the NFC championship game. I listened to the rest on the radio while traveling between Covington and Olympia.

The games weren't too bad, I just didn't like the outcomes. I really wanted to see the Chargers win, but didn't honestly expect it. The Patriots are just too hot this year. It was still good to see the Chargers in the game through the third quarter. Unfortunately, field goals just don't quite compare to touchdowns when it counts.

I also wanted to see the Packers win. It still stings that they were in that game instead of the Seahawks, but the Seahawks haven't won a playoff game on the road in longer than I've been watching them play.

I don't really have a preference between Green Bay and New York. But I figured if New England won the AFC, it might be cool to see a New England — Green Bay Super Bowl. Everything I had heard had made it seem as though that would be a game to remember. Once again though, my hopes were dashed. Green Bay played as badly yesterday as the Seahawks did the week before.

I guess if I'm going to be disappointed by football, it might as well be while I'm listening to it on the radio instead of watching it on television. It's much harder to get emotionally wrapped up in a play you have to mentally visualize rather than one you can see. If it's being described to you, you only know what you're told. When you watch it, you can see how close it was… or how badly the ref blew the call.

What is it about football and the referees anyway? Why is it that they always seem to have a bias to the East coast teams? Even when they're playing in the West?

Thursday night, Betty was planning on taking Zach over to the coast, with the intent of bringing Sidney back. Instead Zach ended up staying and Betty came back without Sidney. That was somewhat of a disappointment again, since I didn't get to see my granddaughter.

So we went to Olympia to pick up Zach at the bus station and to see Sidney. I didn't bring my camera this time, and wish I had. Fortunately though I had my cell phone, so I was able to take a couple of pictures. The little lady was asleep…

Eventually (like, after ten minutes, so maybe eventually's not the right word) Nikki had to get back on the bus with Sidney to head back to the coast. It was the last bus of the evening heading back. She'll be back on Wednesday (at least that's the plan so far) to stay until next Sunday.

She and Zach are going to clean out the room they used to stay in, gather their things and she's going back on Sunday night. Then, we paint the room and Lucas moves into it, and Lucas' old room becomes a computer office, school-room and sewing room.
