For those we lost, We will not forget 09/11/2001 “Our God given unalienable rights are given to us all as individuals. They tell us what we may do for ourselves, and they are the embodiment of liberty. The so-called rights that government gives to some of us are parcelled out to select groups as classes. They tell us what one class of people may require another to do for them, and they are the very essence of slavery.”

Thirteen Random Links to "Dead" Blogs

So what's a "dead" blog? According to BlogShares it's a blog that hasn't been updated in at least six months. Oh there are other types of blogs that they call dead, but that's a start...

  1. Let's start with San Francisco Taxi Driver. The last post to this blog was on December 29, 2006. I like the post from December 15, 2006 titled Driving and Reading a Map.
  2. Next up is The Wooden Robot. The last post to this blog was on May 13, 2005. This blog was a group blog with five contributors listed. Apparently contribution ended shortly after Chuck asked if anyone was still reading the blog.
  3. Third we find .:: Uchiha Itachi ::.. This blog has a rather dark style. It's mostly black and you have to scroll down to the latest entry, which was posted on May 24, 2005. Here's a quote from that entry…
phew what a boring day. been ages since i last blog. didnt know why i created this blog anyway. jus read my friend's blog and it sort of inspired me to start crapping in my blog. but i guess no one would wanna read a blog full of crap right?? haha or am i wrong.
  4. Another common kind of dead blog is one that's been abandoned so long that the blog host simply puts up a 404 page. Such a blog is http://allyrv.blogspot.com/. This one used to be indexed by BlogShares, but it's not anymore.
  5. Our next dead blog is a "stillborn" blog titled ellaishness. This one has one post, left on June 12, 2005 titled New Beginnings
I'm always looking forward to the new things in life rather than looking back at the recent past so I've cleared out the cobwebs and my new summer blog will begin tomorrow *smiles*
  6. Next up is 49andahalf. According to the tagline "49andahalf is about news and information concerning those who work in the private security field. We will provide our readers with unique insight into the world few really know except those who live it everyday." Sound's interesting right? Well there's only one post, and that's a photo of the blogger.

This blog was stillborn on February 25, 2005. Interestingly enough even stillborn blogs are spam targets. Anyone need a high school diploma?
  7. Some bloggers use their blogs to write stories. I guess it's easier than using paper or a word processing program. Such is The Gavin Episodes. The last episode (episode 3) was posted on July 18, 2005.
  8. Other bloggers write in short bursts, then go quiet for a while, only to return much later. An example of this is Take It From Me.

A quick look at the archives show that Tommy Poe first posted in November and December of 2004, then took what looks like a full year off from blogging to return to posting in January and February of 2005. Then he took a really long hiatus and posted again in January and February of 2007.

The last post on this blog was February 11, 2007. While this technically meets the BlogShares definition of a dead blog I have to wonder… Will Tommy Poe post again in January of 2010? It would fit the pattern wouldn't it?
  9. Tenxin Choden had a blog titled The Art of Tshering Choden. This one "died" on August 8, 2006, when she removed all of her artwork and posted a goodbye note.
The images have been taken off from this blog in order to prevent duplication and copyright violation.
    Much apologies to art aficionados.
    Adios ^_*
  10. Every now and then you run into a really obnoxious blog. I hate it when the first thing you see on a blog is a popup dialog. That's the first thing you see at oDie LuV g@rFieLd.
    odieandgarfieldpopup

The last post there seems to have been made three months after the birth of their child. Odie kept his blog longer than I've had mine so far, he ran it from March 2005 through October of 2006.
  11. Sometimes the reason a blog dies can be pretty sad. Elucidatus seemed to be off to a good start, with some happiness. Kate and Jeff had just gotten married and Kate was pregnant. Then, quite sadly Kate had a miscarriage and Jeff lost interest in writing. The last post on this blog is about the euthanasia of their pet Sadie. I hope those two are doing alright, but it's been over two years since Jeff posted.

  13. Our last dead blog is Wanderlust. This is a fine example of a photoblog. The pictures are interesting and pleasing to the eye. The last post was on July 21, 2006, and it has a link to the Han Xu's new photoblog shots from the hip. It's always nice to see a blog that's merely moved instead of truly dying out.

Well that's it for this week. All of these blogs turned up in the BlogShares "dead blog finder", a tool that's used to help clean up the BlogShares index. There's rumblings in the background that soon there will be a new tool added called the "live blog finder". That one should be really interesting, as it will be an opportunity to read lots of "newly discovered" blogs.
