“I consistently believe that when it comes to whether it's Native Americans or African-American issues or reparations,
the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds.”— Barack Obama, July 27, 2008 (emphasis added)

Wednesday Hero - SSgt. Darrell R. Griffin, Jr
Published Tue, Jun 26 2007 11:17 PM
This Weeks Soldier Was Suggested By Jenn

Staff Sgt. Darrell R. Griffin Jr. 36 years old from Alhambra, California
2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division
March 21, 2007

"He was a really patriotic young man", said Darrell Griffin Sr. "He said that the people there really needed us and he felt it was the right place to be. He wished we didn’t have to have wars, but since that’s the way mankind is, he felt he was contributing an important part to his country".
SSgt. Griffin lost his life in Balad, Iraq when his unit came under fire as it was returning to base after conducting security operations in the Iraqi capital.
The eldest son of six children, SSgt. Griffin worked as an EMT before joining the California Army National Guard in 1999. He enlisted in the Army two years later, and in July 2001, was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, in Ft. Lewis, Washington. He served with that unit in Iraq from October 2004 to September 2005.
On his second tour of duty, SSgt. Griffin had been awarded the Bronze Star for valor in 2005 when he was credited with saving the lives of three U.S. and two Iraqi Army soldiers injured during battle in Tal Afar. He had also received the Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Parachute Badge, and the Meritorious Unit Citation.
"Griff was the type of man you want to have by your side in a fight," Maj. Brent Clemmer, his former company commander, wrote from Iraq. "He was the type of squad leader every young soldier wants to have".
"Darrell was my husband, my Soldier, my gift from God who was also the love of my life and always will be." Said his wife, Diana. "He was also 'a Soldier's Soldier of Strength and Honor' whose commitment to duty, honor and loyalty will be forever remembered by all who know and love him. The news of his death saddens us deeply and we ask for your prayers in our time of grief. Please also continue to keep our Soldiers in your prayers
These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero. We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

It's about time SOMEONE was prosecuted...

All I can say is it's about time the prosecutor's office did something about this...
OLYMPIA, Wash. — Prosecutors in King County are looking at possible criminal charges related to a voter-registration drive held in 2006, echoing the suspicions of impropriety raised during the razor-close gubernatorial election of 2004.
King County's acting prosecutor, Dan Satterberg, is reviewing 1,829 questioned voter-registration forms turned in last year by people working for the national activist group ACORN, or the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now. A decision on whether to file criminal charges is expected in late July, Satterberg's spokesman, Dan Donohoe, said Friday.
"We're dealing with possible criminal charges with regard to fraudulent registrations. No one voted from those registrations," Donohoe said. "The investigation is focusing on fewer than 10 individuals hired by ACORN."
...
King County elections workers who handled 1,829 registrations submitted too late to qualify for the 2006 election found them suspicious. It became clear that a handful of people filled out many forms in similar handwriting, elections spokeswoman Bobbie Egan said.
...
The BIAW has criticized the work of elections officials in King County, where most of the questioned voting took place in the 2004 gubernatorial race. Democratic Gov. Chris Gregoire eventually edged out Republican Dino Rossi by 133 votes after two recounts and Rossi's court challenge, which detailed allegations of vote fraud and improper voting by felons.
Association vice president Tom McCabe said Friday he urged Reed to go public and make a forceful call for a federal investigation and prosecution in the ACORN case, but Reed has not done so.
McCabe also urged federal prosecution related to voting fraud in the 2004 election, and he separately sent a letter to U.S. Attorney Jeff Sullivan in March, urging him to act on the suspected fraudulent vote registrations.
McCabe said he thinks Sullivan is taking voter fraud more seriously than his predecessor and that some kind of prosecution will occur because the fraud appears "so egregious." After suspicions were raised about the 1,829 registrations from ACORN, King County elections workers sampled 400 registrations. Only two had valid phone numbers, and in both cases the people reached by phone had not done the registrations, elections staffers said.
I've been asked by fellow bloggers to "get off the soapbox" regarding election fraud. Apparently the attitude is "if it's broken -- don't fix it."
I'm tired of having my vote diluted by fraud. I'm tired of watching fraud and corruption make my vote meaningless here on the left coast.
I've waited to see real action by our prosecutors in this area for almost four years. In 2004 our "accuracy rate any bank would be proud of" made King County the laughing stock of the nation when it came to the integrity of our elections.
Who knows... maybe if we can start enforcing election laws we might also figure out how to enforce a few others... like immigration law. That is, if we can ever hold the politicians to account.
