More new stuff...

My web host has kindly provided instructions for installing several software packages to run alongside my web site. I'm in the (long and tedious) process of installing a few of these now.
One of the reasons the process is so slow and tedious is the file naming conventions. Files with names like ".something" give Web Folders fits, so I have to find the ones that fail, rename them, upload them, and then use a different tool to rename them back.
Some of the stuff I'm looking at is a package called "Gallery", another called "Joomla", one called "phpBB", another called "Advanced Poll", and "MediaWiki". These are all PHP applications with fairly large installation packages. It's going to take me a few days to put them all into place, mess around with the themes and CSS, and otherwise integrate them into the website.
I also have the option of installing WordPress, but I can't really see why I would want to do that. After all, I've spent a lot of time writing this blogging package. Well, actually, I can think of a reason why I might want to install WordPress, but I'm not ready to do that just yet. In any case, this blog is going to stay on the platform I developed for quite a long time. After all, I've got total control over the code, and it's a playground for me.
I think it might be cool to have polling and forum software set up here. I know I'm going to enjoy playing with MediaWiki. Maybe I'll create a "conservative concepts wiki".
I think some of this stuff will be fun.
The Gallery is installed. I'll probably be modifying the layout and style a bit in in the near future. I've wanted to put a photo gallery up for a while, and now I've got one. Currently, there's only one photo in it...
