For those we lost, We will not forget 09/11/2001 “Our God given unalienable rights are given to us all as individuals. They tell us what me may do for ourselves, and they are the embodiment of liberty. The so-called rights that government gives to some of us are parcelled out to select groups as classes. They tell us what one class of people may require another to do for them, and they are the very essence of slavery.”

A short day at the track

Well, if you recall, I'm selling my 1979 Corvette. While I'm waiting for a buyer to wander into my life (I'm not aggressively campaigning to sell the car, but it is for sale), I'm letting John Itofe drive it at the track. The deal is - no more changes. He drives it as is.

He took it to the track today. As usual this early in the racing season, things were pretty disorganized there. At first it didn't seem that way, but that's the way things developed.

I took my new toy to the track, a JVC HDD camcorder with a 30gb drive, and made some video. I'll probably post a few over the next couple of days. This one is John's first pass down the track today. Last week he took the car out while I was in Tennessee, and ran in the high 11.6's. This run he ran an 11.99.

Anyway, as you can see, he didn't really do much of a burnout. That probably affected his launch. There were other things that went a little screwy too. When he got to the end of the track, they gave him the wrong time slip.

You see, John's license number is 615. Our buddy Roger Wilkinson, who drives a blue 1980 Corvette has the driver number U615. Notice the similarity? So they gave John Roger's time slip. I don't know who's time slip they gave Roger.

Anyway, shortly after that round of time trials was done, they announced that a clean-up round would happen for people in Sportsman that didn't get a run, followed by a clean-up round for Pro (our class). After that, they were going to go right into eliminations.

That's a bit unusual. Usually they give each class at least two time trials before eliminations. There were about 4 pairs of cars for the Sportsman clean-up round, and none for the Pro clean-up round. So they called for the first round of eliminations.

Then they decided that they were going to give the racers a second time trial after all. They ran a second time trial for Sportsman. Then they ran the Pro-Street association. Then they started the second time trial for Pro Brackets. They got a few pairs down the track and it started to rain.

That pretty much ended the day with no eliminations. That's a pretty short day at the track.
