An enlightening video compilation

Bullwinkle has an enlightening video compilation of quotes by many Democratic politicians that were made in the years leading up to the Iraq war. It's very definitely worth watching.

Quite a few people have spouted the "Bush Lied, People Died" mantra at me over the short time I've had my blog running. One rather noteable example was Sheila with whom I carried on a fairly long conversation about the war. Even with the quotes, she couldn't believe that these people were supporters of the war. She seemed to believe that they were coerced into saying the things they said.

Anyway, I've seen these quotes compiled before, and several others besides. One of my favorite references for them was John W. Lillpop's collection of them that he posted at Basil's Blog.

I think the video compilation drives the point home all the more strongly. You can hear in their own voices the words of the Democrats and Democratic staffers that pushed for regime change in Iraq as far back as 1998.

I think that's pretty powerful.

It's a shame that some of the same people are trying to undermine our efforts today. The fact that the GOP produced the compilation doesn't even come close to taking away the impact of the Democrat's own words, in their own voices.

Nancy Pelosi is a Felon

She's not convicted yet, but she has committed a felony for all the world to see. She did it deliberately, despite pleadings from the Executive branch of the United States government, and in violation of the Constitution. She should be arrested and prosecuted upon her return to U.S. soil. At the very least she should be censured by the House of Representatives, but it would be better if she were expelled, and then prosecuted.

I'm going to emphasize some of the text in the quotes that follow. Note that the emphasis is not there in the original.

Here's the text of the law that she violated:

TITLE 18 > PART I > CHAPTER 45

§ 953. Private correspondence with foreign governments

Any citizen of the United States, wherever he may be, who, without authority of the United States, directly or indirectly commences or carries on any correspondence or intercourse with any foreign government or any officer or agent thereof, with intent to influence the measures or conduct of any foreign government or of any officer or agent thereof, in relation to any disputes or controversies with the United States, or to defeat the measures of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

This section shall not abridge the right of a citizen to apply, himself or his agent, to any foreign government or the agents thereof for redress of any injury which he may have sustained from such government or any of its agents or subjects.

Please note that that law does not exempt ANYONE, whether they are in Congress, a Judge, or a private citizen. That section of U.S. Law describes a Felony, which would make her ineligible for public service, and would strip her of her civil rights.

Here's the text of the section of the Constitution which she violated:

Article II > Section 2

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur; and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

The President shall have Power to fill up all Vacancies that may happen during the Recess of the Senate, by granting Commissions which shall expire at the End of their next Session.

Please note that this section of the Constitution grants these powers to the President. It does not grant powers to the Speaker of the House of Representatives. In fact, NO SECTION of the Constitution, or its amendments, grants ANY power regarding international relations or foreign policy to the House of Representatives or its members. Only the Senate is given the power to review, advise, and consent with the diplomatic efforts of the President.

Nancy Pelosi has violated both federal law and the constitution. She has forsworn her oath of office by doing so.

Article VI

All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the Members of the several State Legislatures, and all executive and judicial Officers, both of the United States and of the several States, shall be bound by Oath or Affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious Test shall ever be required as a Qualification to any Office or public Trust under the United States.

It might be argued that as a member of Congress she has immunity from prosecution. I would disagree. Congress is not currently is session, so her constitutional immunity doesn't apply. Also, here's even more evidence that Nancy Pelosi is in violation of the constitution, since she's a Representative, she cannot be appointed as an ambassador:

Article I > Section 6

The Senators and Representatives shall receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, and paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other Place.

No Senator or Representative shall, during the Time for which he was elected, be appointed to any civil Office under the Authority of the United States, which shall have been created, or the Emoluments whereof shall have been encreased during such time; and no Person holding any Office under the United States, shall be a Member of either House during his Continuance in Office.

At the very least, as I said earlier, Nancy Pelosi deserves to be impeached. We know that's not going to happen. Her party controls the House of Representatives, and there's no way a majority of Representatives will impeach her. Her party also controls the Senate and there's no way a majority of Senators will convict her.

Since she won't be impeached, she ought to be expelled from the House. That doesn't require the Senate's approval. It STILL won't happen though, because it requires two thirds of the Representatives to do it, and her party controls the House.

Since she won't be impeached or expelled, she should at least be censured. That's a lot more likely to happen, because even some members of her party would agree that she's done wrong this time.

Article I > Section 5

Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members, and a Majority of each shall constitute a Quorum to do Business; but a smaller Number may adjourn from day to day, and may be authorized to compel the Attendance of absent Members, in such Manner, and under such Penalties as each House may provide.

Each House may determine the Rules of its Proceedings, punish its Members for disorderly Behaviour, and, with the Concurrence of two thirds, expel a Member.

Each House shall keep a Journal of its Proceedings, and from time to time publish the same, excepting such Parts as may in their Judgment require Secrecy; and the Yeas and Nays of the Members of either House on any question shall, at the Desire of one fifth of those Present, be entered on the Journal.

Neither House, during the Session of Congress, shall, without the Consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days, nor to any other Place than that in which the two Houses shall be sitting.

Even if she's not censured by the House, Nancy Pelosi still should be arrested and prosecuted. The President has also sworn an oath to defend the constitution, and Nancy Pelosi has clearly violated both the constitution and the law. It's his duty to prosecute Nancy Pelosi.

Article II > Section 1 > Last Paragraph

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:--"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Sadly, I think I can accurately predict that none of this will happen. It's truly a shame.

Nancy Pelosi is a felon, and she belongs in jail.

Nancy Pelosi is an anti-American criminal. Never mind that she's the speaker of the house. She's unconstitutionally taken onto herself authority that belongs to the President of the United States and played the role of international diplomat in violation of the Logan Act. Isn't it time someone was prosecuted for undermining our nation's foreign policy?
