I don't know why, but some days my blog seems to be a spam target. Of course, it's mostly bots of some kind hitting it, so the best defense seems to be automated spam blockers. Here's all of the spam that AKismet caught this morning (up to the time of this post).

There's no telling how many more were trapped by my other filters, since this represents only about 60 or 70 I.P. addresses, although it's around 100 or so SPAM pings. I have banned 444 distinct I.P. addresses for spamming the blog and if they're still trying to hit it with bots I don't know about it.

I have to wade through all of this to sort out legitimate trackbacks and comments to get them on the blog. There are about three bloggers that regularly get trapped by AKismet. I'm working on a way to take care of that so AKismet does a better job. At least it trapped all of these pingbacks.

Oh, and in all of this junk, there were actually five legitimate pingbacks that were trapped. Even so, I'd rather use an automated filter than the old manual method I used to use.

Every I.P. address that spammed me this morning is listed, once for every ping. I've grouped them into blocks by the SPAM subject. I have not sorted the I.P. Addresses, and I'm not going to give these clowns free advertising by listing the trackback URLs they gave.

Apparently the topics the bots use run on something of a schedule. So far today there haven't been any SPAMs for online diploma mills, porn sites, or Google links.
