Downgrade in progress

Well I've given up on Windows Vista. It's just not worth the hassle. I managed to back up all of my data, except the email stored in Windows Mail. That's a bit of a bummer.

I've re-installed Windows XP Professional, from the original CD that came with my computer, and I've spent most of the day fighting with drivers and the like, but the machine boots regularly now.

I've also installed all of the security updates and other stuff from Windows Update. Almost all of the drivers are installed correctly, except my printer drivers. I'm fairly sure that won't be a major problem though.

I don't have much of my software installed on it yet, but that's in progress. I do have my scanner working again, and I've recovered almost all of my data. There's a bit still to go. The data's all there, It's just not moved into the appropriate places yet.

I did install Windows Live Writer. Unfortunately, it's not working on this machine. Just like it didn't work before. Funny, it's the only thing that improved when I installed Vista. At least I have the interface I wrote into the site to post with.

Next up, installing Visual Studio 2003 and SQL Server 2000. Then, I should be ready to see if I can build the website locally. As soon as I get that done, I'll install Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005.

Vista isn't going to see this machine again.

Frankly speaking, when I buy a new computer in the future, I will request Vista not be installed and if it comes with Vista, I will request that it be removed. I prefer Windows XP. Vista is proving to be a major bust.
