Wednesday Open Trackbacks

Here it is the middle of the week again. Sorry about the delay in posting this. I was having difficulties with my web host last night. I uploaded an update to the site code, and suddenly the site stopped working, showing a configuration error. The test site on my development machine was working fine, so it was a bit frustrating.
Then EVERYTHING quit working. I couldn't even upload a site-offline notice to let people know I would be back as soon as I resolved the problems with my web host. In fact, I couldn't upload anything.
I'm not sure why this happened, but the problem has apparently been resolved and I'm back. So, without further grief, this is your open trackbacks post for Wednesday, February 7, 2007.
If you have something interesting you'd like to share, feel free to link it here and leave a trackback.
Just remember the trackback policy.
For the best exposure, go to the blogger's oasis and use the linkfest chooser to choose the posts you'd like to hook up with.

When I ping I get "Trackback URL does not reference the weblog entry's permalink."
Do you change the permalink address after you write your post? I see others are trackbacking to you, are you manually adding those?
Perri Nelson responded with:
When you ping my post, I retrieve the URL your trackback says links to
my post and I parse the HTML. I search for a non-commented <A>
tag with an HREF attribute that contains the permalink to my post. If I
don't find a match then I reject the ping.
I do not change the
permalink URL after posting, but the permalink format did change in the
past. The old format for the permalink of the post you commented on is
http://perrinelson.com/viewpost.aspx?postid=453, but the new format for
the permalink is http://perrinelson.com/2007/2/7/453.aspx. Both will
work to retrieve the post, but only the new format is accepted.
All of the trackbacks listed on my site are the result of pings. I have not manually added any except one for you.
I will update the site tonight to include the permalink URL next to the
trackback URL to make it easier to post, and I will also modify the
trackback module to accept either form of the permalink.
These changes will probably not appear on the site until later this evening.

Thanks to bernie, yet another bug has been squashed. His trackbacks were failing, and it was due to an error in my parsing code. That bug should be fixed now, and I've added additional diagnostics around failures to the trackback module.
