The weekend was a bit busy... well, sort-of. Friday I was out sick from work. I hate it when I'm in such rotten shape that I can't even drive in to work, but I had a massive headache that wouldn't go away, as well as body aches from my head to my toes. I pretty much wanted to stay off the computer too, because even my eyes hurt.

Friday was also my wife's birthday. She and I went out to dinner, and had a relatively quiet evening at home, but I still hadn't shaken whatever it was on Saturday when I got up.

Saturday morning I had to take a few trips to Federal Way to get pressed sawdust logs for the fireplace. It was either that or have someone out to fix the furnace. Finding the logs was a problem because the annual production is just about over, or that's what everybody was saying.

Today, I was feeling much better, although I still have a lingering headache and backache. The wife and I took a drive to Portland to play the Oregon Lottery's Sports Action game. Since we've been married we've gone to Las Vegas or to Lincoln City to spend super bowl weekend in the casinos and to bet on the game. We've done alright in the casinos, winning about as often as we lose, but we've never won in the parlay tickets on the game.

Until today. We bought several tickets, and played them several different ways. It's always more fun watching the game when you have to count the number of passes caught, or the number of fumbles lost or the number of sacks, or the total rushing yardage to see if you've got a winner. If you miss one proposition on your ticket, you've lost the whole thing.

Two years ago I came the closest I ever had to winning, having a ticket that was good all the way through the last five minutes of the game. Last year we had fun because the Seahawks were playing, but all of my tickets were done within the first quarter. This year, I had a ticket go all the way. We had to go back and count the field goals to be sure, but I finally won! $50. Enough to pay for gas to and from Portland and to pay for all of the tickets. Still it was a lot of fun.

It was also the first time we didn't go to either Lincoln City or Las Vegas for the Superbowl for almost 15 years. We had fun watching the game at home though, and I cooked up a big batch of chili for game food.
