For those we lost, We will not forget 09/11/2001 “Our God given unalienable rights are given to us all as individuals. They tell us what we may do for ourselves, and they are the embodiment of liberty. The so-called rights that government gives to some of us are parcelled out to select groups as classes. They tell us what one class of people may require another to do for them, and they are the very essence of slavery.”

Or at least, nothing that passes for news these last couple of weeks. You won't find anything here about Anna Nichole Smith. I'm not posting about Al Gore's Oscar winning mockumentary. Nope, not in this post anyway.

I'm not going to tell you how sick and tired of the lies and hypocrisy of our Democratic leaders, not in this post. I'm not going to tell you about the latest rantings of the madmen in Iran.

You don't really want me to tell you yet again about digging tunnels in the mud and lining them with greenbacks. The multi-millionaires that want to live off of the public dole aren't going to be mentioned here.

Instead, I think I'll remember that despite all of the foolishness that goes on in the world these days, there's still good stuff that happens.

I came home after a relatively long day at work to a quiet evening at home with my family. Dinner was waiting for me, simple, but tasty (chili dogs with cheese and onions).

The dogs were happy to see me. Especially when I had a little bit left over for them to munch on. It was cold outside (34 degrees) but nice and toasty inside. The fireplace was cheery. The electricity was working. The cats were curled up on the couch sleeping.

There are lots of people that can't come home to that every night. A lot of them probably wish they could do it just once in a while.

I like to think that I work hard to earn the things that I have and the comforts I enjoy. I suppose without the work I wouldn't have them. But I remember too that the work isn't enough.

I've been truly blessed to live the life I live. I'm fortunate even to have been born. I didn't have to face the chance that a big spoon would come into my small wet, warm home and scoop me out before I even had my first chance to taste the air.

Any number of circumstances in my life could have gone differently. When I was young and very foolish, I could have found myself in jail, incarcerated with other young and foolish men, strung out and unaware of my surroundings until the nightmare struck home.

I could have had to pay the price for my mistakes in so many ways. I could have been killed or killed someone else in a drunken excursion down the highways after a particularly hedonistic outing following a long day at work in Florida.

None of those things happened though. I've been particularly blessed. I stumbled into my career after rebelling against my own talents. Now, I live a comfortable life, with many material blessings, as well as the blessing of a loving family.

Yes, despite the fact that I don't deserve it, God has been very good to me. I hope He's just as good to you.
