Windows Vista

Well, I'm not sure this was a good idea. So far I haven't been able to activate my copy of Windows Vista Ultimate. Every time I try, "Windows Explorer" encounters a problem and has to close. Downloading and installing updates took forever too.

Visual Studio 2003 runs, but for some reason I can't run my local test copy of the blog software. That's going to make debugging the blog a pain.

My TV-Wonder VE card works, but the audio doesn't. I'm not sure what's up with that yet. The audio drivers don't seem to recognize the "line-in" input.

My Snapscan 1212u scanner (from Agfa) doesn't have a device driver that works with Windows Vista either. Agfa stopped supporting their scanners in 2001. It looks like I'm going to have to install it on one of the other computers, or scrap it and buy a new scanner.

I haven't managed to activate Office 2007 yet either. Something odd is going on there.

More later, but so far, this isn't exactly a promising upgrade


Update: At least now Windows Live Writer is working again on my main machine.

Update 2: The TV-Wonder VE card works with audio when I'm recording, but not when I'm viewing TV. It seems that Vista thinks that the line-in input can only be used for recording, and not for playback. At least I'll be able to record TV shows now. Or transfer my VHS tapes to DVD for home use.

What version of MMC are you using with Vista and the TV Wonder VE?

I'm not using the ATI MMC. It doesn't work properly on Vista for some reason. I am just using the TV viewer utility. It's a bit disappointing to use it this way, but I haven't seen a Vista compatible MMC on the ATI website yet.

There is one but not for the TV Wonder VE, did Vista pickup the drivers for the TV Wonder VE or did yuo have to use ATI's?

I think it just used the ATI drivers that were already in place when I upgraded. I know that the Audio Crossbar was flagged as being incompatible.
