On Friday, I recommended Charles Petzold's book Code: The Hidden Language of Computer Hardware and Software. I bought this book several years ago when I decided to quit working at Microsoft. I spent three months reading it, and writing a software simulation of the various logic units described in the book.
Friday's post reminded me of that exercise, and so I went back to it. On the website dedicated to the book there are a few additional logic circuits described, including one that just might help to solve some of the timing issues I was having in that early simulation.
So I spent a good part of Sunday re-working my project from scratch (after doing a little fall cleaning around the house). Things have been going fairly well in that project. I think this time I might finish it.
My wife sometimes thinks I'm a bit crazy, writing software for a living and then coming home to write it for entertainment. Maybe she's right.
