End this war

It was a quick and decisive victory. Shortly after routing the enemy there was the "mission accomplished" moment. Now, long after that victory, the fighting continues with Islamist insurgents once again firing on innocents.
Land mines and other explosives are destroying military vehicles, and armored cars. The fighting has forced schools and businesses to close. The nation's government is ineffective.
Does this sound like Iraq? Isn't this the way the media hyped the story? Isn't this what we are told is wrong with the war in Iraq, that we need an "exit strategy"?
Well… it's not Iraq. It's Somalia.
The latest fighting has forced schools and business to close.
Some 1,600 Ugandan troops are also in Mogadishu as part of a planned 8,000-strong African Union force to support the interim government.
Somalia has been without an effective government since civil war began in 1991.
I said back in December that this was a pattern of behavior with the Islamists. They talk a good game. They fight well as terrorists. They collapse in the face of overwhelming military force.
Then they hide among civilians and wage a war of insurgency. They are cowards hiding behind women and children.
And now, as then, the media portrays the Islamists as the victims, reminding us that the government is ineffective. Soon, as they did in December, they'll be "remembering" and reminiscing about how wonderful things were under the Islamists.
