PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (AP) -- Bill Cosby settled a lawsuit Wednesday with a woman who said the entertainer drugged and sexually assaulted her at his home outside Philadelphia.

This is a crying shame. Bill Cosby has been a strong voice, speaking out about responsibility. He has spoken strongly about men taking responsibility for the children they create. He has spoken strongly about the need for parents to take an active part in their children's education.
This will only damage his credibility. That's a real shame, because his usual message is so important.

Saddam the Coward

Gateway Pundit has a really interesting post today. Here's an excerpt.
Saddam believed the lies of his fellow Baathists media and propaganda (which was directed by his defense team under the leadership of Khalil Alnuaimi), which was saying that the USA wishes to negotiate with him and that Rumsfeld wished to reinstate him to stop the violence and other such lies. Thus the court’s sentencing him to hang came as a big shock to Saddam.
The media did not report his behavior since he reappeared, Saddam's legs were shaking and he could not stand a number of times when called upon. The sources said that the video filmed for the court shows that the bailiff had to help him stand, and that he was wobbly once he stood up, and when he was spoken to he appeared bewildered and did not know what to say except invoking God’s mercy. As Saddam was escorted back to his cell he sends word to the judge Raauf asking for mercy and clemency. This information was confirmed by the court today.
...
Saddam’s behavior once he realized he is now completely defeated showed his cowardice and weakness. If this former leader is behaving in this manner then what will his followers do once they realize that their defeat is inevitable if we stay and keep training Iraqis to fight them?

We all knew he was a bully and a thug. Now it seems Saddam has shown that the old adage about bullies is true. They're all cowards underneath. Saddam is no exception.

Assuming that James Webb prevails over George Allen, the incoming Senate will have 49 Republicans, 50 Democrats (including nominal Socialist Bernie Sanders), and 1 Joe Lieberman. Lieberman, having won re-election in spite of being dumped by his party in the primary for voting with Republicans occasionally, now owes nothing to the Democrats and is even more free to vote with Republicans when his conscience dictates. If Lieberman sides with the Republicans on a party line vote, it's a 50-50 tie, with the Vice President adding the 51st vote for the GOP. Lieberman is now the real tie-breaker, the most powerful member of the United States Senate, and largely thanks to the Kos Kidz support for Ned Lamont in the primary.
Kos, this one's for you--

Now isn't that ironic?
I wish I'd thought of it myself, but it's the absolute truth. The Shark also has a video to go with the post. Go over there and read the whole thing!!!

Strippers win, Sonics lose

SEATTLE - Strippers were winners and Sonics were losers in voting in Seattle.
City voters rejected an attempt to restrict strip clubs.
...
Voters approved an initiative that heads off a taxpayer subsidy for renovating the Key Arena for the Sonics. Initiative 91 requires that the city receive at least fair market value for any taxpayer investment in the arena.

The strip club vote doesn't affect me. I don't go to the places. I did when I was a younger man, and wasted a lot of time and money doing it, but I don't anymore. The people that were behind the move to reject the new restrictions claimed it was about free speech, but I think that's a pretty bogus argument. Really it was about the City of Seattle trying to drive strip clubs out of business altogether. In a city full of liberals that don't believe you can legislate morality I think this result is totally expected.
The Sonics issue doesn't affect me much either. I've never been a great fan of basketball, and the Sonics haven't done much to make me one either. I am tired of professional sports teams trying to blackmail taxpayers into subsidizing their teams with threats to leave.
The Mariners did that and the people voted against the funding of their stadium. The state legislature declared an emergency and funded it anyway, overriding the will of the people. The Seahawks did the same thing, with essentially the same results. The King Dome was destroyed, still unpaid for, and a new stadium was built in it's place.
The Sonics have said they'll leave Seattle unless they get a world class facility, paid for by the taxpayers. The taxpayers have said no.
It's time for the Sonics to go.
Buh-Bye.

Dow reaches new high on election results

NEW YORK -- Wall Street rose for a third straight session Wednesday, with the Dow Jones industrials reaching another record close as investors grew more confident that a huge victory by Democrats in congressional elections would result in gridlock and keep lawmakers out of the way of business interests.

This is probably one of the brighter spots that came out of the election results for conservatives. Most conservatives believe in limited government. When the legislature is actively churning out laws and regulations government is almost always expanding, and that's not a good thing.
With the narrower margins in both the House and Senate, there's likely to be more gridlock, not less, especially if conservatives hold to their principles. The market sees this and looks on it with favor.
I'm not suggesting that Republicans will or should act like petulant children, the way the Democrats did when the Senate was more evenly divided but held by the Republicans. Instead, conservatives should stand up for their ideas and fight for them, even if they're fighting a losing battle. Make the extremely liberal, far left leadership of the Democratic party fight for every vote by standing up on principle.
Republicans lost by not holding to their principles in many ways. The only way they're going to win back the House and Senate is to return to those principles and fight for them honestly. They should accept that the Democrats have the majority, and try to sway the votes of those so-called "conservative" Democrats that were just elected with reasoned debate and an appeal to their principles.
If they can do that, there's a chance they'll win back the House and Senate and frustrate the liberal leadership. It's going to be hard though, because the senior leadership in the Democratic party is hard-left and they're going to try to push and force the new junior members to follow their leadership if they want any sort of power or future backing.
Republicans need to keep reminding people that a lot of the changes in the House membership came because the Democrats pushed more conservative candidates, especially in districts where the Republican was basically a liberal or moderate to begin with. Sure there were other reasons, and this election proves that the Republicans need to clean house. I suppose that's another good thing, because now, a lot of the RINOs are gone.
