After losing in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit the New York Times wants Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to block the government from going after the phone records of Judith Miller and Philip Shenon. The government says that phone calls from two reporters that may have tipped off two Islamic charities about upcoming government raids.
The appellate court ruled that federal prosecutors can see the phone records. Naturally the Times wants to prevent any scrutiny into their leaking of National Security Information. From the Washington Post:
The case involved stories written in 2001, by Times reporters Judith Miller and Philip Shenon, that revealed the government's plans to freeze the assets of two Islamic charities, the Holy Land Foundation and the Global Relief Foundation.
In a 2 to 1 decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit ruled in August that federal prosecutors can see the phone records of Shenon and Miller. Miller retired from the Times a year ago.
...
The Times wants Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to temporarily block the government from going through the records so that the newspaper can prepare a petition arguing why the justices should step into the case. Ginsburg asked the Justice Department for a response.
Freedom of the press should not mean the freedom to reveal sensitive information in a criminal or national security investigation. The New York Times has a consistent record of doing just that, often appearing to pick and choose the most damaging information to reveal, even when other information would give a totally different impression.
It's no surprise that the New York Times would choose the most liberal member of the Supreme Court to block the government from furthering its investigation. Could it be that they really do have something to hide?

This afternoon my wife and I took our son and my mother (she's visiting from Tennessee this week) up to Snoqualmie pass to enjoy the snow and to have some pizza at the Red Mountain Coffee restaurant.
I took a few pictures to share them with you all.
As you can see it was beautiful up there. We had a good time too.

She came to give our family some post-surgical support. We're heading up to the mountains this afternoon to take in a bit of snow.
I'll post some pictures later this afternoon.
