From The Onion...
Despite claims from China that Kim's statements are "nothing more than hollow threats," the U.S. remains worried that the communist republic may test a second nuclear weapon in response to Sony's new line of 62-inch flat-screen television sets.

New York Times admits Iraqi documents "raised alarms" at the U.N.

Gateway Pundit has a VERY enlightening post: NYT: Saddam Was a Year Away from Building A-Bomb! After reading this post, I followed the link in it to see what else the fishwrapper of record had to say...
Some of the first posted documents dealt with Iraq’s program to make germ weapons, followed by a wave of papers on chemical arms.
At the United Nations in New York, the chemical papers raised alarms at the Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission, which had been in charge of searching Iraq for all unconventional arms, save the nuclear ones.
So how did our "friends" at the United Nations handle all of this? They panicked. That's right, they panicked, and they suppressed the information.
In April, diplomats said, the commission’s acting chief weapons inspector, Demetrius Perricos, lodged an objection with the United States mission to the United Nations over the document that dealt with the nerve agents tabun and sarin.
Soon, the document vanished from the Web site...
Now why would they do that? Sure, I know the reason they'd give publicly. They don't want other rogue regimes to learn from the documents. But I bet part of the reason they panicked is because they've been trying to cover up their failure to find the programs when they were "inspecting".
My question to all of the wing-nuts on the left coast now is... "Do you still think removing Saddam from power was a waste of time?" Or do you want to keep your head in the sand?
There's no question in my mind. Not only is this the right war at the right time, but there's no excuse for not staying there and finishing the job right.

I've signed up for the Haloscan comment service and plugged the code into the site. Now, interested readers (if there are any of you out there) can comment on what they read here, and maybe we can carry on a real conversation instead of me just speaking (ok typing) into a vacuum. I'll probably spend the time someday to implement the feature into the site without relying on a third party service, but Haloscan's service should work OK for now.
So please, start letting me know what you think about what I have to say.

This is NOT about "freedom of speech"!

An Issaquah School District bus driver fired for flipping off President Bush while on the clock claims she was wrongfully terminated.
Source: Bus driver who flipped off Bush fights for job
The fired bus driver filed a union grievance last month for wrongful termination. She has declined to be identified or interviewed.
Chris Dugovich, a spokesman for the Washington State Council of County and City Employees, said it wants the district to re-evaluate its decision.
"There's only one individual who saw this and it happens to be the president of the United States," Dugovich said. "We're interested in saving her employment."

The District’s Director of Transportation was informed of the incident by her staff on the same day, and she began an investigation that ultimately ended in the driver’s termination.
"This was part of a pattern of behavior with this particular bus driver, not an isolated incident," Barry said.
...
Barry reiterated that the decision to terminate the employee was not motivated by any political reason.
"If the bus driver had made the gesture to a driver who cut her off on a local road, we would have taken the same action," Barry said.
Source: Issaquah School District - News release
There could have been quite a few motivations for the driver to flip off the motorcade. Especially out here on the left coast. Based on the school district news release, it could have been road rage after waiting for the motorcade to pass by. There's a lot of people that flip others off on the roads out here, and a lot of inconsiderate drivers that I'd like to flip off from time to time.
It could have been politically motivated "hate speech" (hate gestures?) on the driver's part. The Lord knows people out here on the left coast suffer from "Bush Derangement Syndrome" altogether too much. Obscene gestures are part of what passes for "reasoned political discourse" out here.
Whatever the "excuse", it was a stupid thing for the driver to do, and I stand by the Issaquah School District on this one. Even if the driver was engaging in "free speech", this sets a bad example for school children, and it reflects poorly on the school district. Considering that this was part of a pattern of behavior this decision should stand.

Scandals Alone Could Cost Republicans Their House Majority
Published Thu, Nov 2 2006 1:36 AM

Indictments, investigations and allegations of wrongdoing have helped put at least 15 Republican House seats in jeopardy, enough to swing control to the Democrats on Tuesday even before the larger issues of war, economic unease and President Bush are invoked.
With just five days left before Election Day, allegations are springing up like brushfires. Four GOP House seats have been tarred by lobbyist Jack Abramoff's influence-peddling scandal. Five have been adversely affected by then-Rep. Mark Foley's unseemly contacts with teenage male House pages. The remaining half a dozen or so could turn on controversies including offshore tax dodging, sexual misconduct and shady land deals.

Why is it that when a scandal involves a Republican the news media gleefully parade it around like this? But when it involves a Democrat it may make the news, but it's buried very quickly? Could it be because they really, deep down, want the Democrats to take over?
I mean that would explain why it is that Harry Reid's "shady land deals" don't make the front page wouldn't it? Or how about William Jefferson's freezer full of bribe money? Or Jim McDermott's handling of private cell phone conversations that were illegally recorded? Or Gerry Studd's actual sexual acts with teenage male House pages? Or Jack Murtha's involvement as an unindicted conspirator in ABSCAM?
I guess it's only news when Republicans are corrupt, even though the corruption in government is just as egregious on the left side of the aisle.
Republicans! Get out and vote! And don't forget to remind the Democrats that election day is Wednesday, November 8. :-)

With Iraq Driving Election, Voters Want New Approach

That's the headline from the New York Times anyway, the fishwrapper of record. I think if you read the article in more depth though, it only shows that people expect the Democrats to do what they have been saying they'll do for the last couple of years, and withdraw from Iraq. I think that would be a horrible mistake.
WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 — A substantial majority of Americans expect Democrats to reduce or end American military involvement in Iraq if they win control of Congress next Tuesday and say Republicans will maintain or increase troop levels to try to win the war if they hold on to power on Capitol Hill, according to the final New York Times/CBS News poll before the midterm election.
...
But 93 percent of Republicans said they were definitely or probably going to vote next Tuesday, compared with 89 percent of Democrats.
Source: With Iraq Driving Election, Voters Want New Approach - New York Times
It's going to be a close election this year. The Democrats have probably gained more ground this year with the help of their allies in the major media than they have in a long time, but their policies still amount to "Cut and Run" despite what you may have heard John Kerry say on Tuesday.
Bob Novak is predicting that the Democrats will gain control of the House, but fail to win the Senate. Personally I'm hoping that they fail to win either house. It's going to be close though.
I do know that if we quit, there's no way we'll win, either in the election or in Iraq. Five years ago conservative pundits were reminding us that the only way we could lose the war on terror would be if we lost our resolve. The New York Times and the Democratic party have been working to ensure that happens ever since, trying to relive their glory days of the late 1960's and early 1970's.
It will be a real tragedy this time if they succeed. For one thing, it will prove to the enemy just exactly what they think of us, that we're a bunch of soft, weak-willed cowards who quit when the going gets tough. In Somalia it only took the deaths of a few of our soldiers for us to cut and run. Now, it may take a few more, but if the Democrats win it will be the same thing all over again.
Last month, 105 American soldiers died in Iraq. The media certainly has made a lot of that number, and it is indeed a terrible thing. It will be even worse if we quit and waste their sacrifice.
Oh, and by way of comparison, based on statistical averages 240 people were murdered in California last month. I don't know what the actual number was, but it's not something the New York Times or the L.A. Times will see fit to print any time soon.
Democrats: "We lost 105 soldiers last month, and over 2800 since the war in Iraq started. Let's pull out now before we lose any more."
Republicans: "We lost 105 soldiers last month, and over 2800 since the war in Iraq started. Let's honor their sacrifice and finish the job. Let's win the war on terror!"
