A first year teacher in Smithfield North Carolina gave students a word search puzzle as an assignment. Students were to translate words and find them in the puzzle. Here are a few of the messages in the puzzle as reported by WRAL in Raleigh North Carolina:
- "Sharon killed a lot of innocent people," a possible reference to former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon.
- "Palestine is not a terrorist group."
- "Allah help destroy this body of evil making humanity miserable."
The instructor also teaches Arabic at an Islamic religious school. He had recently seen a news story that upset him when he wrote the assignment.
According to the article on the WRAL website, the teacher resigned immediately on hearing of an unspecified complaint. Authorities have declined to take this any further.
This man looks like he could have a future at the United Nations helping to spread the gospel of Kofi.

ACLU tried to hide attack on monument

The Alliance Defense Fund successfully defended the display of a Ten Commandments monument on Friday against a challenge by the American Civil Liberties Union. The ACLU had tried to have the monument declared unconstitutional, and had tried to hide the fact that it was behind the lawsuit.
MUSKOGEE, Okla. — A federal court today agreed with the arguments of ADF attorneys and determined that a Ten Commandments monument erected with private funds on a county courthouse lawn is constitutional, thwarting a legal challenge by the American Civil Liberties Union.
“Even the ACLU would have to admit that abstaining from lying, cheating, and stealing are ideals that all Americans should value,” said ADF Senior Counsel Kevin Theriot. “The morals set forth in the Ten Commandments have been a vital part of American values throughout history. The government’s acknowledgment of this historical fact does not create a constitutional crisis.”
The ACLU had originally submitted a motion to the court requesting that its name be held in confidentiality so that the public and any jury would not know that it was behind the suit. The request became moot when the case went to trial without a jury.
Read the entire press release on the ADF website (emphasis added).
The monument was erected with private funds and sits among other monuments erected with private funds. The ACLU tried to have it removed as an unconstitutional establishment of religion, and they tried to hide this from the public.
I guess they don't want the public to know that their agenda isn't really about protecting our civil liberties. They wouldn't want the public to know that they're trying to erode every public expression of Christian faith that they can after all. Even though that seems to be a large part of their agenda.
The ACLU was founded by people who wanted to replace our current form of government with classic socialism or communism. To achieve that end, they have to tear at the foundations of our culture and part of that is their continued attack on Christian expression. They just don't want you to know about it.

What is it about text messaging that makes people stupid?

We all remember what happened to Rep. Mark Foley. People in Washington remember Spokane Mayor Jim West. Now a top level Lewis County administrator has been caught up in a similar scandal and fired for it. This time it has resulted in a few law enforcement careers going down the tubes and at least one divorce, with a few police wives investigating their husbands too.
From the Seattle Times comes this article...
A recently fired top-level administrator in Lewis County, Patti Prouty, has gone from anonymity to infamy. As central-services director, she was in charge of hooking up police cruisers with mobile data computers. She then used that technology to send naughty instant messages to at least 10 police officers while they were on patrol.
The cops played along with Prouty, replying with their own racy messages. "Are You Nakie?" is the immortalization of a message from Napavine's police chief to Prouty.
...
Assistant professor Gregory Gilbertson, director of a vocational criminal-justice program at Centralia College, is discussing the scandal in class with students who aspire to work in public safety. The lesson focuses on ethics.
"The message to be learned is if you take public money as your salary, then the public holds you to a higher standard of conduct," he said.
"It reinforces the point that public officials must avoid any type of unprofessional behavior because it disgraces the profession and it erodes public confidence."
This leaves me wondering. Does today's technology that allows for instant communications make people stupid? Who in their right mind would sent this type of message while on the job, using company equipment?
Most instant messaging software I've seen gives you the opportunity to save all of your conversations with a contact. Email is just about forever too, especially if it's on servers that belong to your employer. I keep a record of all of my instant messaging conversations and all of the email I send or receive.
Over the years we've seen email communications used in courts as evidence. A notable example of this is when Microsoft was sued by the Justice Department and internal emails were used to present a pattern of behavior.
It should be obvious by now that everything we do in modern society leaves a trail. Sure, there's a certain degree of anonymity on the Internet but the old adage that on the Internet nobody knows you're a dog is no longer true. This is especially the case when you use servers supplied by your employer, or servers that belong to a government agency.
Sure, this all happened this summer for Prouty, before the Mark Foley scandal broke. But it happened after the Jim West scandal broke.
What is it about the Internet that makes people stupid anyway?

Seahawks Collapse

Well, the Seahawks defense played just as poorly as they did a few weeks ago. The offense was totally pathetic too. Seneca Wallace handed this game to the 49ers in a nice box with pretty wrapping paper and a bow.
There were a few good moments. Shaun Alexander started out pretty lack-luster but improved in the third quarter. The story of the game though was four turnovers by the Seahawks, all of which translated into points scored against the Seahawks. [Correction: All but the last one]
That coupled with phenomenal rushing by Frank Gore turned into an upset defeat for the Seahawks that proves that you can't play poorly and hope to get by on luck every week.
If I had to choose an MVP it would be Frank Gore for his 200+ rushing yards. His only real mistake came in the fourth quarter when he fumpled the ball, but grace was with him as Seneca Wallace threw his third interception of the day on the very next play.
I mean, come on, there wasn't a Seahawk within 5 yards of that ball. Just when the Seahawks look like a little luck is going there way Seneca Wallace pulled out the wrapping paper and tied the present up with a nice little bow.
The Seahawks deserved to lose this game the way they played. With this game San Francisco has snapped the Seahawks 10 game streak in the west and broken their 6 game streak vs. the 49ers.
The Seahawks fall to 6 - 4 and the 49ers improve to 5 - 5. The 49ers are now in sole possession of second place in the NFC West. The Seahawks and 49ers meet again on Qwest Field on December 14th, at 5:00 PM PST.
Next Monday the Seahawks play Green Bay on Qwest Field at 5:30 PM PST. Maybe they'll have their act together this time.

Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D - N.Y.), Hypocrite

So Mr. Rangel is reintroducing a bill to bring back the draft, after he introduced one back in 2003 and then voted against it. By the way, among those voting for it was Rep. John P. Murtha (D-Pa.), that's right, Cut-And-Run Murtha at the time wanted more troops in Iraq, before he started calling for a complete withdrawal.
From the October 6, 2004 Washington Post:
Rumors of reinstating the military draft, which have flourished for months in panicky e-mails, online chat rooms, college dorms and student newspapers, suddenly dominated the House floor yesterday in one of the strangest parliamentary maneuvers in memory. With even its sponsor voting against it, a bill to require young adults to perform military or civil service failed, 402 to 2.
I guess they forget that their record is still available in public view.

Seahawks at San Francisco - 1:05 PM PST

There's still no definitive word from Coach Holmgren about whether Shaun Alexander, Matt Hasselbeck or Bobby Engram will be playing tomorrow. It's been a long time without them and the Seahawks have been playing rather spotty football.
At least they've been winning. The defense hasn't been stellar, but they have only allowed one touchdown in the last eight quarters. Part of that can be attributed to playing just about the worst team in the NFL two weeks ago when they shut out the Raiders.
Today's game against the 49ers is another divisional game. This will be the first time the Seahawks have played the 49ers this season. They've won the last six in a row against them. The Seahawks and the 49ers have played 15 games against each other overall, and the Seahawks lead the series 8 - 6.
The Seahawks come into this game with a 6 - 3 record and the 49ers with a 4 - 5 record. Hopefully no matter who starts in today's game the Seahawks will continue their winning ways against San Francisco.
I'm going to a friend's house to watch the game. We're going to have a really good time.
